Hello, Africa. Farewell, Football.

Header 1

Well there’s a blog title I never thought I’d write.

But don’t panic! It’s different than it sounds. Kind of.

Let’s just go ahead and talk about Africa and football and all the things, really. Starting with football.

(I mean, is there any other way?)

When I think about what football means to me, I don’t think about banner-moments of fandom: watching Brett Favre run around the field as a kid, going through multiple packets of tissues while visiting Lambeau for a day, experiencing the 2010 Super Bowl season in the most amazing way.

The first thing that comes … Continue reading

Football for Normal Girls : What it means to love a team

Football for Normal Girls : What it means to love a team

I willingly admit that I am an irrationally passionate football fan.

Irrational is probably an apt word to describe feelings of intense despair over the loss of a football game, but after the Packers playoff loss yesterday it’s safe to say that I’m drowning my sorrows in a side of ice cream with every meal.

And then some.

I posted this over at Football for Normal Girls today, and since I know a lot of you are irrational football fans too (or are trying to understand an irrational football fan in your life), I thought I’d post it here … Continue reading

Christmas Videos and Unlikely Touchdowns

Christmas Videos and Unlikely Touchdowns

Below is our family Christmas video.

It looks shockingly similar to last year’s Christmas video, mostly because we are creatures of habit around here. We have breakfast, give presents, watch Christmas movies, make a big lunch/dinner, and watch more Christmas movies. It’s a finely tuned system in which we laugh/eat/laugh again/eat again, and the whole sequence takes place in comfy clothes by the fireside. So it’s really no wonder why we don’t change anything.

One more Christmas item checked off the list!

In other news, the Packers won a win-and-you’re-in game yesterday against the division rival Bears. This was … Continue reading

Most of you know that I run an educational website for women called Football for Normal Girls. Some of you may have even gone over there for a visit! If you have, chances are good that you fit into one of the following categories:

1. You really love football and want to learn more about it.

2. You really hate football and just … Continue reading

Why passions matter

Why passions matter

why passions matter

I was floating down a river in Montana when I realized I loved football more than just about anything else in the world.

It was one of the first stops on the road trip. I was working on a flower farm in Montana for a few days, and after a very long day at farmers markets the day prior and a very long day weeding the day prior to day, my host thought it would be nice to go on a trip down the Flathead River to relax.

The Flathead is gorgeous. I’ve never seen water so clear … Continue reading

Inside the Arena

Inside the Arena

Inside the Arena

I love football more than just about anything. So last Thursday I decided to forgo all of the things that I should have done – things that look like hunkering down behind a computer and working – and did the one thing I always want to do: be near a football field.

I drove a handful of hours over to Foxboro, Massachusetts, to Patriots camp. I was already pretty happy because really, nothing is quite as attractive to me as the prospect of spending the whole day driving and watching football – in gorgeous weather, no less. But my emotions … Continue reading
