The Story Part II

Missed Part I? No sweat; it was awhile ago. You can find it here!

I have such exciting news that I’m not even going to bury the lead and wait another 1500 words to share it.

I was recently hired to be part of the team at CURE International near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (!!!). I’m going to be their new content coordinator, working with emails and newsletters and social media, among other things, in an effort to spread the word about this amazing organization that heals sick kids from the inside out (!!!).

This JOB. I still can’t believe it.… Continue reading

The miracle of action (part 2)

The miracle of action (part 2)

The Miracle of Action 2

On Friday we talked about the miracle of action. And it’s just such a good topic that I think we should talk about it again today. Also, I originally put all of these thoughts into Friday’s post and then took pity upon you all because I thought you might still be reading it today, it was so long. So one way or another let’s dive back into this conversation again.

This time, with real miracles!

(Feel free to oooooh and aaaaaah as you feel led.)

One of my favorite verses is Exodus 14:14. It’s the part in Exodus when … Continue reading

The Miracle of Action 1

Yesterday I was out running and had a revolutionary thought:

God has never miraculously taken hold of my body and moved it from couch to pavement.

I know. This is the kind of insight you come here for.

But really, my legs have never started moving of their own volition and ushered me out the door into a successful workout. And all of the praying in the world hasn’t given me a single serving of abs, let alone a 6-pack.

This doesn’t come as a surprise. I know that God is not likely to look down from heaven, shout “Be … Continue reading

I was thinking about math yesterday.

Now, I’m an English person, so I think about math approximately zero times per day. In fact, I actively avoid thinking about math because I’m convinced it gives me hives. I know why letters are in sentences. I do not know why letters are in math problems. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let them mingle was sorely mistaken.

Do you remember math textbooks from school? The ones with pages and pages of comprehension questions at the end of every chapter…and the answers in the back of the book? When I first … Continue reading

Without fear of falling

Without fear of falling

If you’ve known me for longer than 5 minutes, you know that I have the coordination of a newborn fawn. There really doesn’t need to be anything on the ground for me to trip over; so long as there’s air around I’ll get the job done on my own. For some reason, this has never inhibited my desire to do things which are clearly outside of my realm of giftedness. Things like biking (fell down a hill), skiing (fell down multiple snow-covered hills), rollerblading (fell down a freshly-graveled hill), sledding (knocked unconscious in my backyard after…you guessed it!…falling down … Continue reading

The Lie of Enough

The Lie of Enough

I think my ice cream eating habits reveal something about my character. Other than the fact that I really like ice cream.

WhenI was a kid, sometimes we’d go around the corner to McDonald’s and get hot fudge sundaes. I’d take a good long look at the cup before diving in, strategically plotting my hot fudge to ice cream ratio, and always start with spoonfuls of 90% ice cream, 10% hot fudge. I was sure that I would have to ration the hot fudge sparingly to have enough to make it through the whole sundae. And inevitably, I’d get … Continue reading
