If my own experience is any indication, writers are more talented at procrastinating than at any other skill. I can come up with 87 things to do that are not writing. Eating is a favorite standby (because perpetual snacking and sitting are foundational to every healthcare routine). There is also the never ending List Of Things – bills to be paid, texts to return, errands to be run. It is during would-be writing time that I find things to photograph and then edit; it becomes imperative to look out the window and wonder why I haven’t done anything with the … Continue reading
1. To Read
One of my favorites, A Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout … Continue reading
I knew I liked Lauren Venn as soon as I read her About page. It was so disarmingly honest. Her whole blog is like that – she does not pull a single punch. I’m on an unexpected but welcomed truth kick in life, so I find myself appreciating people who tell it like it is even more than I usually appreciate them.
This post in particular struck a chord with me, which is what happens when you read a blog post and find yourself shouting “YES!” in agreement after every sentence. Here’s a portion:

We’ve all come prepackaged with insecurities
I turned 28 a few days ago (although according to some sources, I actually turned 29). And since I love nothing more than a good round of reflection, I came up with this list of 28 things that have happened so far in life that I’m really happy about. It’s not an exhaustive list, and I’m sure 5 minutes after I hit Publish I’ll think of 10 more things to add, but these are the ones that have come to mind so far.
In no particular order:
28 Things I’m Really Glad I Did

Well, we skipped March, and it’s well-documented that I have no words for actual blogging right now, so how about a list to kick April off? Because who doesn’t love avoidance with a side of slacking?
What I’m Loving This Month
1. 2048 // My tea is cold, no work has been done, and I have barely moved a muscle since dinner. All because of this ridiculous game. People. This is why I don’t play online games. The competitive streak kills me every time. Every time. If you are looking for me, I’ll be up until sunrise trying to beat … Continue reading
I’m not so good with the words this week, so I’m sending out a peace offering of YouTube videos instead.
Win some, lose some. YouTube some.
1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Unleash NYC
This is just fun. What’s better than surprising people and making them smile?
2. 5 Ways to Live an Extraordinary Life
This list is actually legit, unlike most Make Your Life Better! lists. Probably because it’s by Bob Goff, and he rules all.
3. African Tribal Cover of Let it Go
This has exploded over the past few days so you may have already seen it, but … Continue reading
I’m starting to wonder if I might be half human, half Jack Frost, and have powers that only come alive in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Consider the evidence:
Exhibit A: When I came down for a week of training last month I arrived in the middle of a pretty substantial snow storm. Roads were closing left and right as I drove into town and tried to find a way to get to my destination.
Exhibit B: I left a night early after said training because another whopper was supposed to hit over the weekend.
Exhibit C: This week, on my second day … Continue reading
